I have always loved playing cards. It is one thing to gamble with friends for fun, but I should never have gambled so long with my estate.

Joe and Bev Gouer

portrait of Joe and Bev Gouer

Joe and Bev Gouer came to Seamon Law Offices for a pre-crisis planning consultation. The Gouers knew they needed an estate plan that took the various real estate properties they acquired over the years into consideration. Their plan included a revocable trust for most of their assets and an irrevocable trust for their real estate. Joe and Bev had both retired in their early 70's and were in reasonably good health. However, several years later they had begun experiencing the effects of time.

“We are big fans of Doreen’s TV show, and have wanted to meet with her for quite some time, but for some reason kept putting it off. I guess it is just human nature to push off things like this, even when we certainly shouldn’t.”

After a couple of visits with Doreen, the Gouers were set up with an estate plan that protected them, their assets, and their son from the burden of trying to figure out his parents' estate in the event something would happen to them.

“Even though we were in our 70's and 80's, we still felt very young and that we had plenty of time to deal with things like this. The reality is we waited way too long! I have always loved playing cards. It is one thing to gamble with friends for fun, but I should never have gambled so long with my estate. We should have taken care of this in our 50’s and 60’s.”
